About the DB Section
If you joined the Scheme before 2002, you probably have benefits in the Defined Benefit (DB) Section. The DB Section of the Scheme is closed to new members and future accrual.
We make reference to 'closure members' throughout the site. You are classed as a 'closure member' if you were an active DB member on 31 December 2016 and became an active DC member on 1 January 2017 and still continue to contribute to the DC Section.
If you haven’t yet started to draw your pension from the DB Section, your deferred benefits are held for you in the Scheme until you either:
- retire and become a pensioner member, drawing your benefits from the Scheme
- leave the Scheme and transfer your benefits to another pension arrangement
- die, when the Scheme will pay benefits to your dependants.
Expression of wish
Please make sure that your expression of wish is up to date. In the event of your death, the Trustee is responsible for deciding who should receive any benefits that may be payable, but it takes your wishes into account. An up-to-date expression of wish allows us to quickly and easily identify anyone you have nominated to receive benefits.
You can update your expression of wish at any time by logging into your personal account via My Work Pension.
